To put the cart before the horse (literally: “to put the plough before the oxen”) means to do things in the wrong order or too quickly.

💬 Example:
You tell your best friend that you’ve just met a charming man and that you’re head over heels in love. Your best friend immediately asks when the wedding will be. You reply that, yes, he’s charming — but she’s putting the cart before the horse!
